Jody: Thank you. It's funny, the people (family) who expect much from me during the holidays, usually get nothing. The people who expect nothing, usually get a little more. Ultimately, I do believe that if one is going to give a fitness-minded gift, time to be fit is a much better gift than a device to get fit.

Hope your holidays are joyful, fit, and BTW, you can not be the grandmother of 7 -- holly cow!!!

I loved this post!!! It is so true! People spending money they do not have & are more stressed after the holiday season is over trying to pay the bills! We have 7 grandchildren & I already said we are NOT doing much this year. They have so much already & we save to go see them once a year & wishing I could see them more.

I just love your suggestions! I think I will mention your post in December sometime! I will let you know when!

Dr J: Thank you, and I will encourage (the guitar player in)you do dig more deeply into Whitley's whole body of work -- it is vast, eclectic, and poetic. Watching a friend die of lung cancer is not a sight for kids -- or even for adults. Sorry for the loss of your friend a couple years ago, but you honor him ever time you think of him.

Jody: I too have seen someone die slowly from cancer, and I referred to her as "gramma". No loss is a good loss, but watching a loved one die slow changes you -- it did me.

Will check out your Sunday post right now!

Dr J: Thank you very much. Some how the (former) season of giving has morphed into the (current) season of buying and giving. The line between the two is not that fine, but then no evolutionary line ever is. Have a great holiday -- however you spend it; airborne for part of it, I'm guessing.

All very kind suggestions, Roy!

In high school I had a friend who was from a very poor family. One day while talking, he said to me, "You know, the best things in life are free!" The beautiful thing was, he had never heard the saying before! Came straight from the heart.
I hope the same for your holiday, Roy. You deserve it :-)

Roy, I did NOT mind you "plugging" this post on my site. We need to make people aware!!! This was a great post.

As you read, my mother-in-law died from small cell lung cancer and it was NOT fast & it was horrible.

I will have another post Sunday on this too if you care to read it... about the toxic ingredients in cigs.

Thx for this post!

I hadn't heard him before, but Chris Whitley is everything that you so aptly described, so thank you for that!

I play guitar, the bad boys instrument of my younger days. I'm not that good, but good enough to enjoy it, and be grateful that I put the time into learning to play.

A couple of years ago, I lost a very good friend to lung cancer. Mercifully, he went very quickly...I think about him most every day.
